William's hup! story

After discovering the hup! building system and connecting with their local hup! builder, the couple worked with them to create a completely new extension design that not only extended the footprint of the original conservatory, but also delivered a dramatic upgrade in terms of both looks and performance.

To make the most of the space, William and his wife increased the footprint to incorporate a welcoming hallway combined with a spacious sitting area, the heart of the new extension.

The chosen design features a sleek hup! Flat Roof with a large lantern that floods the room with natural light, along with two sets of aluminium sliding doors opening up to the garden. The doors maximise the versatility of the space and draw in further light, with the largest door providing an impressive focal point.

The hup! Flat Roof is strong enough to span up to 5.6m unsupported above bi-fold or sliding doors without the need for expensive and often cumbersome additional structural support, which was perfect for this project with the large triple-track sliding doors.

William explained: “We chose large sliding doors over bi-folds because when they’re closed, there are fewer bars to interrupt the view of the garden. When they’re open, the space is huge – exactly what we wanted.”

“One of the biggest reasons we chose hup! was speed. Compared to bricks and mortar, the difference is night and day. The structure was up and watertight in just four days. The other factor was confidence: with hup!, the design, technology, and specification all come as one package, so everyone knew exactly what they were doing.”

Externally, the hup! is finished in white render complemented by anthracite doors and a three-tier anthracite flat cornice at the roofline. A matching anthracite front door was added at the far end of the extension, while a feature wall with integrated planters cleverly separates the home’s entrance from the rear garden.

The completed project has added significant and much-needed space to the property, creating a stunning sitting area with panoramic views over the rolling hills of Devon. The modern, sleek aesthetic complements the existing character of the bungalow while providing a fresh and contemporary touch.

The result has been truly transformational. The old conservatory was a space the couple rarely used, but their new hup! extension has become their main sitting area, a light-filled, comfortable room they now enjoy every day, and that looks superb.

William summed it up: “Our hup! extension has been life-changing. Everything works beautifully, it’s stronger and faster than traditional building, and we’re delighted we chose hup! instead of brick. We couldn’t be happier!”
