Lee's hup! story
Lee and his wife Georgina had an ageing wooden conservatory at their home in Bramhope. Over time, the timber frames had deteriorated and the structure had developed multiple leaks.
“We weren’t able to use it as a proper garden room as we would like,” explains Lee.
When the family began exploring their options, they quickly realised the challenges of a traditional extension. Builders quoted them 16 to 20 weeks of work at a cost of around £70,000 to £75,000. The disruption of such a project would have been significant, with the garden and much of the home out of action for many months.

Why hup! was the right choice
Instead, Lee and Georgina chose the hup! building system. One of the biggest advantages was that due to the lightweight nature of hup! walls, the existing conservatory base could be used, meaning there was no need to dig new foundations.
Because the hup! walls and roofs are manufactured and cut to size in the factory, there is no cutting or drilling required on site, and there is also no need for cement or heavy machinery, keeping the whole process extremely clean and efficient.
A design that ticked every box
Rather than simply replacing the roof, the family decided to redesign the space to create a room they could enjoy all year round. Full-length windows were positioned to maximise natural daylight and a set of large sliding doors provided direct access into the garden, which was an essential feature for the family’s lifestyle.
For the roof, Lee and Georgina selected the hup! hybrid roof. This offered the comfort of a solid roof with the added benefit of glazed panels, cleverly placed to bring light exactly where it was needed. “We wanted a solid roof for comfort, but also light – and now we get both. At night, the views out to the sky are incredible,” says Lee.

Once the build began, within just a few days, Lee and Georgina’s new hup! extension was watertight.
Lee recalls: “The timescale to build was a huge plus point for us – the speed was amazing – and I mean so quick. There was no mess, no big equipment, no disruption. The kids could still play in the garden, even while the work was going on. Even after a day of work being done the garden was good to use – it was crazy!”
The new hup! garden room has completely transformed how the family uses their home. Lee reflects: “We were astounded by the speed, the quality, and the confidence of the build. To be sat in it now, it’s gone beyond what we expected. The hup! system was the best choice we made – without question.”
