Sunshine Cottages - DFG Home Adaption

Delivered alongside BCC Adaptations, specialists in home adaptations for private clients and local authorities across Hertfordshire, the project transformed a traditional property into a more practical, inclusive, and comfortable living environment.

The homeowner required additional ground floor accommodation that would improve accessibility while maintaining a high standard of design and usability. The brief called for a spacious, accessible bedroom, a fully equipped wet room, and a layout that would enhance the overall flow of the home. The design also needed to maximise the available footprint of the property, working within tight site constraints while ensuring minimal disruption throughout the build process.

To meet these requirements, hup! delivered a bespoke L-shaped home extension to the rear and side of the property, adding approximately 22 square metres of accessible living space. The design features a contemporary flat roof with a skylight, allowing natural light to flood the interior and create a bright, welcoming environment.

Externally, the extension combines durable, low-maintenance finishes including Hardie® plank cladding and the hup! brick slip system, enabling the new space to integrate seamlessly with the existing home while offering long-term performance.

A key advantage of the hup! system is its ability to reduce disruption during construction. The structure is precision-engineered and manufactured offsite before being delivered pre-cut and ready for installation.

This approach significantly reduces on-site waste, mess, and the overall impact on the homeowner’s daily life. It also helps to minimise disturbance to the surrounding garden and neighbouring properties, making it particularly well suited to occupied homes.
