Mark's hup! story

The main reason for building the extension was to provide Mark’s home with some much-needed additional living space. Rather than creating a room with one fixed purpose, Mark wanted a flexible area where he could sit, relax and enjoy the outlook onto the garden. It was important that the extension felt like a natural part of the home, while also giving him a closer connection to the outdoor space.

The completed hup! extension now provides a spacious and comfortable sitting area, with plenty of room for sofas and other furniture without the room feeling crowded.

A key part of the design is the large set of anthracite grey bifold doors across the rear of the extension.

When the doors are closed, the generous glazing provides uninterrupted views of the garden. During warmer weather, they can be opened to connect the extension directly with the patio and outdoor space.

This has created a room that feels open and inviting, allowing Mark to enjoy the garden from the comfort of his home throughout the changing seasons.

Mark’s hup! extension is topped with a hup! flat roof and a large glazed lantern.

Positioned above the main seating area, the lantern allows daylight to enter from above and creates a bright, airy atmosphere inside the room. It also adds height and architectural interest, making the extension feel larger and more spacious.

Together with the bifold doors and additional glazing, the roof lantern ensures the new room receives natural light from several directions.

Externally, the hup! extension has been finished in crisp white render, complemented by anthracite grey doors, windows and roof trims.

The combination gives the extension a clean, contemporary appearance while working well alongside the brick exterior of the existing property.

Inside, the light walls, neutral furnishings and garden views create a calm and comfortable environment. The inclusion of solid wall sections also provides practical space for furniture, lighting and artwork, helping the extension feel like a proper room rather than an addition to the house.

Mark was impressed by the modern approach behind the hup! building system and the efficient way in which the extension could be constructed.

The system also provided the design flexibility needed to create the room he had imagined, including the flat roof, large glazed lantern, bifold doors and carefully positioned solid walls.

With the main components manufactured before arriving at the property, the installation process was straightforward and caused less disruption vs a traditional build extension.

Since the extension was completed, it has become an important part of Mark’s home.

The combination of high levels of natural light, garden views and a comfortable internal temperature means the room can be used throughout the year. It provides somewhere to relax on an everyday basis while also offering additional space when friends and family visit.
